Our Parish Priest

Fr David Hartley has been in post here at St Joseph's as Parish Priest since August 2023.

He was born in outer London in 1959 and grew up in an Anglican family, becoming increasingly committed in his faith and with a clear sense of God's calling to ordination. After a Divinity degree at Edinburgh he qualified and worked as a nurse in central London, before two years training for the Church of England Ministry. During that time in London he married Pat and they have four children.

In 1995 the whole family were received into the Catholic Church by Archbishop Maurice and Fr David was ordained priest in February 1998, working for several years as Catholic Chaplain to the hospitals in Oxford. Since then he has been a Parish Priest in Blackbird Leys, Meir, Caverswall and Cresswell in N Staffs, Thame and now here in Whitnash.

OUR JOURNEY TOWARDS BEING MORE SUSTAINABLE

“… I would like to invite everyone to tackle this journey together … only in this way will we be able to create the future we want, a more inclusive, fraternal, peaceful and sustainable world.” Pope Francis

Some examples of our 'living simply, sustainably and in solidarity with the poor:

  • collections for the food bank
  • being a Fair Trade parish and promoting fair trade
  • promoting CAFOD World Gifts
  • St Peter's Aid to the Needy - collect and distribute funds both at home and overseas
  • encouraging recycling and walking to Church
  • special Justice and Peace prayers during Lent
  • Live Simply events including local organisations
  • an environmental audit

LIVE SIMPLY PRAYER

Compassionate and loving God, you created the world for us all to share, a world of beauty and plenty. Create in us a desire to live simply, so that our lives may reflect your generosity.

Creator God, you gave us responsibility for the earth, a world of riches and delight. Create in us a desire to live sustainably, so that those who follow after us may enjoy the fruits of your creation.

God of peace and justice, you give us the capacity to change, to bring about a world that mirrors your wisdom. Create in us a desire to act in solidarity, so that the pillars of injustice crumble and those now crushed are set free.

Amen.
